SELF Reliance

It's funny to me (and not funny ha ha) that many of the people that are very uninterested in building an emergency food supply are the very same people that need it the most.  Some people just don't think that an emergency will ever effect them.  They think that preparing for an economic collapse or terrorist activity is just plain crazy and they are above the paranoia.  That is their prerogative and I hope they are right.  Yet these are often the same people that live basically paycheck to paycheck and could be a month away from not being able to afford food.  They don't need to subscribe to the doomsday theories.  Their emergency could be localized to their living room.  Something is as simple as a lay off or medical problem.
That is a position that many Americans are currently facing.  So to me, what sounds crazy, in the face of that uncertainty, is the lack of preparation NOW.  I'm left to assume that the plan these people have, is expecting someone else to help them out.  Expecting someone else to be prepared.  Is that someone else a family member, a friend, a church or is it the government?  How about SELF reliance?  I for one don't want to have to rely on someone else to provide for me, much less expect someone to.   And I certainly don't want to trust the government with my needs.

What is the roadblock that is stopping you from becoming more self reliant?
